Castello di Farnetella
Chianti Colli Senesi
Farnetella dates back to the 5th and 6th centuries AD, originally settled on the hilltop of Castelvecchio. In the Middle Ages, it was ruled by the Conti della Berardenga, a noble family of French origin. Due to its border location within the Republic of Siena, Farnetella often became a refuge during political unrest. Its name comes from farnia—the English oak—a symbol of strength still featured on its crest.
In 1981, the Poggiali family, owners of Fèlsina, acquired Castello di Farnetella. The estate lies in a unique climate niche southeast of Chianti Classico and north of Montalcino, within the Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG. This distinctive location allows it to produce wines that reflect both tradition and the character of one of Tuscany’s most diverse growing zones.
